This website is designed for professionals who work with families with young children and wish to support early math learning in everyday moments of family life.
This website can also be used by families who are looking to bring more family math into their homes and their daily routines with their young children.
The DREME Family Math website is organized into two main parts:
- Early Math Resources for Professionals Serving Families are designed to support professionals interested in engaging families around early math.
- The collection of Family Activities promotes early math learning in different areas of family life: cooking, reading together, games and play, and chores and errands.
You can also search and filter the activity directory by suggested age groupings and math topics.
The activities are focused on times during daily life that families spend together. For example, there are recipes for cooking together, storybook guides for reading together, and many other tips for bringing math into everyday life. All of the materials are free, research-based, developed in collaboration with professionals who work with families, and designed to support the development of early math skills in children ages 0-8.
The activities could be used in a variety of settings, including workshops, parent groups, and home visits. Many of the activities can be shared with families to practice on their own. Each activity on the website has specific suggestions for how it can be used with and adapted by families.
Our free, research-based early math materials support professionals who work with families with young children in engaging families around early math. The materials can be used from a smartphone, printed, or downloaded, and shared widely with the families you support.
Get started by exploring our Early Math Resources for Professionals Serving Families—a set of articles on key early math topics, the development of children’s thinking about math, and strategies for promoting positive math attitudes. Then, browse our Family Activities, where you will find fun early math activities along with tips and instructions for sharing them with the families you support.

Math snacks offer quick and easy ideas for finding and talking about math in everyday family routines. You could text math snacks to the families you work with as a follow-up to your meeting, and/or share them on social media.
DREME sounds like “dream” and is short for Development and Research in Early Mathematics Education.
